KATIE RICHARDS

Katie RichardKatie Richards has been working at Charter Chambers since September 2011 after having worked for two years with Wakefield Quin. Prior to moving to Bermuda in 2009 she was a practicing Barrister at an eminent family law Chambers in South Wales, United Kingdom. Katie's practice included acting for clients in all facets of divorce including appearing for high net worth individuals in complex property and financial settlement, liaison with accounting and tax specialists and acting for parents in difficult custody, care and control and access disputes. Katie has continued to undertake the same work in Bermuda and has gained considerable experience in dealing with multi-jurisdictional disputes and trusts. Katie was called to the Bermuda Bar in February 2010.

Katie believes that, where possible and appropriate, before litigation is embarked upon parties' should have an opportunity to explore other methods of dispute resolution in the hope that settlement can be achieved in a respectful and amicable manner. Throughout her career at the Bar in England & Wales, Katie demonstrated this philosophy in her day to day dealings with clients and strived to achieve the best results in a collaborative manner.

Katie is a strong advocate who brings to Bermuda a wealth of knowledge in amicably resolving disputes during the often stressful and emotional breakdown of relationships. Katie became a Collaborative Lawyer in 2010.

Katie obtained a law degree from Reading University and completed her Bar Vocation Course at Cardiff University. In 2001, Katie was called to the Bar of England and Wales by the Honourable Society of Gray's Inn, London. Having successfully completed her pupilage at 33 Park Place, Cardiff where she remained as a tenant for 5 years, Katie accepted an invitation to join the leading family department at Temple Chambers in Cardiff, where she remained until her move to Bermuda.

Katie is a committed advocate of the collaborative law process and is desirous of assisting parties to reach an amicable and fair resolution of their issues. Katie is a member of the Collaborative Law Alliance and the International Academy of Collaborative Professionals.
